dreaming Fairy

This is my new watercolour illustration with inked outlines and some work in progress images, to let you see how I ended up with this one.
Even though I wasn't all to happy with the butterflies in the first place, I think I can live with them now and decided against redoing them in Photoshop.
The Fairy and her companion the bird are dreaming, what about, I don't know, maybe you can tell me. Anyway, I hope you like it.

To Roberto: Unfortunately I don't speak any spanish, but I will surely find someone capable of translating it for me.

  5. Hi Maria! Your fairy, bird and butterflies are beautiful, I love how dreamy they look, very peaceful. I think the butterflies are fine, but maybe if you added just a touch more color to them, to echo the colors in the bird/fairy, you might be happier with them? Just a thought, ignore at will!

  8. Thanks everyone ^___^!

To Susan: I had them more coloured in the shades of the birs and girl at first, but decided to go for a more subdued colouring in the end to make them stand out less against the characters. But thanks for taking the time to have a look and giving some feedback!

  15. A beautiful fairy tale image! Even though they are sleeping, there is a wonderful movement to it, lending to the dreamy quality. The soft colors are great. This reminds me of Thumbelina and her bird. Ah, you make my heart beat faster.

    ... it really looks nice.
... that background just adds such a great Old World feel!

  19. Hi Maria,

The mood you've created in this piece is exactly what you said you wanted. It's just lovely and peaceful. I wouldn't worry too much about the butterflies. You've managed to keep them subdued enough to make the focus on the fairy and bird, so they are successful. The most impressive detail to me for your composition, is that one butterfly on the far right, facing back into the scene directing the viewer's eye back in. Without him you would just drift off the page to the right.
